Youth-Based Mental Health and/or Substance Abuse
Programs
Mental health disorders and substance abuse in children and
adolescents are serious public health issues. MFH funding will assist
organizations working with youth under age 21 requiring intensive,
coordinated treatment. Organizations will be expected to implement
evidence-based treatment services or promising practices in the
proposed programs.
Organizations may propose projects in one or more
of these areas:
- School-based mental health and/or substance abuse
prevention and/or treatment services, with emphasis on school
collaboration.
- Youth suicide prevention for individuals under
age 21, with emphasis on school collaboration.
- Integration of evidence-based mental health and
substance abuse treatment for adolescents with both mental illness
and substance abuse (co-occurring disorders).
How to Apply: Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI)
outlining the proposed program, evidenced-based intervention or
promising practice and projected budget. After review, MFH will
invite select applicants to submit a full proposal.
LOI available: January 4, 2008
LOI due: February 14, 2008
Full proposal, if invited: May 5, 2008
Anticipated award: September 2008
Assessment or Planning for Mental Health
and/or Substance Abuse Programs.
In order to successfully address the treatment needs of consumers,
organizations must identify and quantify those needs to plan comprehensive
treatments both programmatically and financially sound. Assessment
or planning grants need not focus solely on youth. The intent of
this funding is to pay for costs associated with:
- Activities that define consumer needs, examine
options for meeting those needs, and identify how the best intervention(s)
can be implemented and supported; or
- Designing, planning, and budgeting for the initiation
or expansion of prevention and/or treatment programs.
How to Apply: Submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) outlining
the proposed program, evidenced-based intervention or promising
practice and projected budget. After review, MFH will invite select
applicants to submit a full proposal.
LOI available: January 4, 2008
LOI due: February 14, 2008
Full proposal, if invited: May 5, 2008
Anticipated award: September 2008
Innovative Funding
This funding will assist organizations wanting to test new approaches
to solve particular mental health and/or substance abuse problems
that other approaches and programs are ineffective in addressing
- innovative and intriguing approaches that can also help shape
the direction of future MFH grant-making opportunities. Although
evidence-based interventions are not required, applicants should
be clear about what change is anticipated from the innovative approach.
Innovative funding is very limited and competitive.
Timeline: Submit a concept paper outlining the proposed
program. After review, MFH will invite select applicants to submit
a full proposal.
Concept paper accepted: February 1, 2008 - May 15, 2008 (Contact
MFH for more information)
Full proposal due, if invited: July 31, 2008
Anticipated award: November 2008
