Purpose of Evaluation (for both
applicants and the Foundation)
- To monitor the performance of funded programs
- To review a project's performance based on the
individually tailored measures and methods
- To determine the most appropriate use of the project's
(current and future) funds
- To discover best practices and report on those
to assist applicants and stakeholders in their projects
- Provide a mechanism of learning for both applicants,
grantees and the foundation that can improve programming and planning
efforts
Focus of Evaluation:
The Foundation seeks to undertake evaluation activity at four levels
of its work:
Evaluation in the context of MFH Grantmaking:
- Used as a tool for learning how the Foundation
can be more effective
- Provides a mechanism for both the Foundation and
Grantee to understand what works, what does not and why
- Identifies information that will help determine
if the project is on track
- Serves as a monitoring tool to make mid-course
corrections during projects and document accomplishments and challenges
- Provides practitioners with information to design
more effective programs
- Used as an integrated part of program planning
and delivery rather than an "add-on" process
- Uses
a "participatory" approach, involving people with multiple
perspectives, including stakeholders
