Description: The NGA Center for Best Practices provides research and analysis for states on emerging issues and state models. Coordinated school health involves a set of interrelated components that work together to improve the health of and reduce the risky behaviors by school-aged youth.

Description: DASH was established in 1988 and seeks to prevent the most serious health risk behaviors among children, adolescents and young adults. To accomplish this mission DASH implements four components: 1) identify and monitor, 2) synthesize and apply research, 3) enable constituents and 4) evaluate.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)

Description: Located within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences, the NCES collects and analyzes data that are related to education in the U.S. and other nations.

Missouri Coordinated School Health Coalition

Description: A School Health Advisory Council Guide created by the Missouri Coordinated School Health Coalition. This Coalition works to organize and provide technical assistance to school health advisory councils in the state of Missouri.

Information Available: A step-by-step process for creating a school health advisory council, i.e. development, selecting members, operations and conducting meetings. Also includes tools and examples of coordinated school health programs and topics.

American School Health Association (ASHA)

Description: ASHA unites the many professionals working in schools who are committed to safeguarding the health of school-aged children. ASHA is a multidisciplinary organization of administrators, counselors, dentists, health educators, physical educators, school nurses and school physicians which advocates for high-quality school health instruction, health services and a healthful school environment.

The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools

Description: A nonpartisan policy and resource center that supports the development of state and community partnerships to establish comprehensive school-based health centers.

Information Available: Currently operating school-based health centers by state with contact information, news alerts, reports, funding opportunities, recent publications, a parent resource guide, dental and mental health services at schools, fact sheets and links to other resources.


The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care (NASBHC)

Description: NASBHC represents school-based health care providers and supporters. The organization promotes accessible, quality school-based primary and mental health care for children and youth through interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts.

Information Available: Legislative updates, center for advocacy and public policy, the National Campaign for Federal Appropriation, center for technical assistance and training, a center for evaluation and quality of school-based health centers, yearly conventions, HIPAA resources and quick links to other school-based health center resources.


National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE)

Description: NASBE aims to help policymakers and practitioners create safe, healthy and nurturing school environments for all of the nation's children and youth.

UCLA School Mental Health Project,
Center for Mental Health in Schools

Description: This Center, one of two national training and technical assistance centers, focuses on mental health in schools. Its mission is to improve outcomes for young people by enhancing policies, programs and practices relevant to mental health in schools. The center aims to advance efforts to plan, implement, and evaluate school-based programs; analyze and discuss current programs and needs; develop new models for school-based interventions; and demonstrate the value of school-university collaboration to develop and evaluate interventions.
