Health Policy Fellow

ROLE:

The Missouri Foundation for Health Policy Fellowship is a unique opportunity for early careerists to learn about health promotion from the perspective of a philanthropic organization.  In addition the fellowship provides an opportunity to bring new thought and ideas to existing efforts of the Missouri Foundation for Health.

The Health Policy Fellow is a temporary position beginning on the date of hire and running through the summer.  Under direct supervision of the Health Policy Director, the health Policy Fellow works alongside the entire Health Policy team. Job duties include research, writing for internal and external audiences, editing, reviewing grant proposals, outreach activities to communities and policymakers, assisting with trainings and workshops, and gaining knowledge of and building relationships with various organizations and agencies from around the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts literature reviews, needs assessments, and research on issues related to MFH programming.
  • Plans and executes meetings with community organizations/individuals/specialized audiences as needed.
  • Participates in activities of MFH policy teams, including grant proposal review and site visits as appropriate.
  • Attends professional development opportunities that fit with the MFH mission and vision, as well as the individualized interest of the Fellow.
  • Perform general Foundation support activities and carry out special projects as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree; MPH or health related field preferred.
  • Self-starter possessing the ability to handle multiple assignments independently.
  • Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Ability to translate, summarize, and present complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Must demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with management, supervisors, staff and the general public.

Physical and Work Environment Demands

The physical and work environment demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. Physical demands, such as the ability to walk, sit, etc., are those of a typical office environment. Work environment demands a remote office setting and requires overnight travel, and some evening hours. The position requires extensive driving to reach the various parts of the Foundation’s region.
