Program Fellow

ROLE:

The Foundation’s Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity for early careerists to learn about how a philanthropic organization works to have a positive impact on important health issues. This competitive fellowship opportunity places a strong emphasis on professional development, supporting the fellow for career plans beyond the Foundation. The fellowship is a 24-month appointment beginning on the date of hire, requiring residence in the metropolitan St. Louis area during the term of engagement.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Programs, the Program fellow will work alongside the entire Program team. Job duties include research, writing for internal and external audiences, editing, reviewing grant proposals, outreach activities to communities and policymakers, assisting with trainings and workshops, evaluation support, and building relationships with various organizations and agencies from around the state. This position will have multiple responsibilities and projects with various departments and must prioritize as such, as well as be collaborative.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Outreach

  • Participates and assists in planning applicant and grantee activities, including workshops and trainings as appropriate
  • Plans and executes meetings with community organizations/individuals/specialized audiences as needed
  • Participates in site visits with Program staff

Program Development

  • Conducts literature reviews, needs assessments, and research and analysis of data on issues related to MFH programming
  • Participates in activities of MFH programmatic teams, including grant proposal reviews
  • Assists in the evaluation of programs, systems, and structures of the Program area 

Other Duties

  • Participates in professional development opportunities that align with the MFH mission and vision, as well as the individualized interest of the fellow
  • Performs general Foundation support activities and carries out special projects as required

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree; MPH, MHA, or other health-related field preferred
  • Ability to take the initiative and handle multiple assignments independently
  • Research and data analysis experience. Understanding of more complex analysis software (SPSS, SAS) a plus, but not required
  • Ability to translate and present complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with management, supervisors, staff, and the general public
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to present a professional manner and appearance   
  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time

The physical and work environment demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. Physical demands, such as the ability to walk, sit, etc., are those of a typical office environment. Work environment demands a remote office setting and requires overnight travel, and some evening hours. The position requires extensive driving to reach the various parts of the Foundation’s region.
