New CoverMissouri.org Makes It Even Easier to Get Help Finding Health Insurance

Finding health insurance can feel like navigating a bureaucratic maze.

Do you qualify for Medicaid? If not, how do you make sense of the Health Insurance Marketplace and find the coverage that’s right for you? The rules and criteria for coverage are often confusing, and it can be overwhelming to figure out what insurance fits your particular situation. This is why we worked in collaboration with the Cover Missouri Coalition to create CoverMissouri.org and its Find Local Help tool. A lot has changed since the site’s birth in 2013, and in the winter of 2024, we rebuilt it from the ground up to be even more streamlined and effective.

Since its creation, CoverMissouri.org has connected Missourians with in-person (and later, also virtual) assisters who help navigate the complexities of health insurance in our state. “The website started as a one-stop shop for finding assistance as well as information about the Health Insurance Marketplace. Later, help with Medicaid was added,” explained Nancy Kelley, Director of Health Advocacy at the Foundation. “Back then, there was a real lack of trustworthy information online about the Affordable Care Act, so we worked to fill that void. Thankfully, these gaps have been addressed by other official channels.”

At this point in the life of CoverMissouri.org, it’s all about leading people directly to a new and improved Find Local Help tool, where visitors can locate the assistance they need to get and stay covered, either under Medicaid or the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Kelley spoke about what makes the site unique after all these years. “While there are many more resources online now about health insurance, there really isn’t a Missouri-specific Find Local Help tool like the one on CoverMissouri.org. Finding and receiving personalized assistance as you work through this process can make all the difference for people who are working to gain health insurance that’s right for them.”
