Advocacy Training & Technical Assistance

We work to build the advocacy capacity of community partners by offering technical assistance and hosting workshops and learning opportunities.

Workshops & Learning Opportunities

MFH offers a variety of workshops and other learning opportunities, including how to engage effectively in health advocacy, facilitating small group meetings with state legislators, and more. We are continuously striving to improve our offerings based on input from past attendees and feedback from the field. Learning opportunities offered each year currently include:

Alliance for Justice Training
The Bolder Advocacy team at Alliance for Justice partners with MFH to provide a variety of trainings centered on deepening the knowledge of advocates by clarifying definitions, limitations, and opportunities for nonprofits. We recommend completing this training prior to engaging in significant advocacy efforts. Organizations with regular advocacy activities should take it periodically as a refresher.

If you have questions about Alliance for Justice training, please contact Nancy Kelley, Director of Health Advocacy.

Technical Assistance

We also offer limited advocacy technical assistance to grant recipients. Assistance is provided in response to requests and may include:

  • Introductions to other organizations working on a particular topic or in a geographic area
  • Help navigating online legislative resources
  • Identifying health-related legislation which has momentum at the state level
  • Feedback on how to include advocacy activities as a regular part of your mission-oriented work
