About the Foundation
Our mission: to eliminate underlying causes of health inequities, transform systems, and enable individuals and communities to thrive.
Missouri Foundation for Health is building a more equitable future through collaboration, convening, knowledge sharing, and strategic investment. Working in partnership with communities and nonprofits, MFH is transforming systems to eliminate inequities within all aspects of health and addressing the social and economic factors that shape health outcomes. The Foundation takes a multifaceted approach to health issues, understanding that strategic initiatives, policy, and research all play a role in creating lasting impact.
An independent philanthropic foundation, MFH was created in the year 2000, following Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri’s conversion from nonprofit to for-profit status. It is the largest organization of its kind in the state and among the largest in the country.
In serving 84 counties and the city of St. Louis, MFH listens to communities, invests in systems, and is committed to helping partners cultivate their best ideas.
We are a health conversion foundation
Our efforts are possible due to charitable proceeds resulting from the conversion of a major health insurance company.
We work with health- focused nonprofits
We are not part of a state, local, or federal government, nor a company. We are governed by a Board of Directors that collectively bring a wealth of knowledge from all aspects of health in our region.
We make the greatest possible impact
In order to maximize limited resources, we identify and fund health programs that are guided by our strategies.
United By One Vision
