On June 19,2018, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) issued a final rule widening access to association health insurance plans (AHP). AHPs are health plans offered by small businesses and sole proprietors that allow groups to act as one large employer when offering
health insurance to their employees. These arrangements are viewed as a way for small businesses and individuals to negotiate more affordable health insurance in a market that is viewed to favor larger groups.
